Will Delaware have a mild winter? Here’s what the Farmers’ Almanac and weather service say

How cold will it get in Delaware this year? Will the First State have a White Christmas?

Here is this year’s winter outlook from the National Weather Service.

What is the winter outlook from National Weather Service?

The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center is predicting a 40% to 50% chance temperatures in Delaware will be above normal during meteorological winter. The same is true for Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Last year, the statewide average temperature, according to the Delaware Climate Office, was 40.2 degrees, or 2.9 degrees above the 1991-2021 mean value of 37.3 degrees. Delaware also saw 15.83 inches of precipitation – 5.78 inches over the 1991-2020 mean of 10.5 inches. Last winter was also the third wettest winter in the past 130 years.

It’s a coin flip as to whether this winter will be above or below normal in terms of precipitation. The National Weather Service is saying there’s an equal chance of both possibilities.
