The Acme Market on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington will close in November because the store’s lease is ending.

“Close a story is always a touch issue,” said Dana Ward, director of communications and public affairs. “Our focus remains on growing our business, which sometimes involves reinvesting resources into existing stores and exploring potential new locations.”

No employees will be laid off,” said Julie Miro Wenger, executive director of the Delaware Food Industry Council, which is a grocery and drug store trade organization.

Employees will be offered jobs at other Delaware locations, she and Ward said.

“Associates who are interested in remaining with the company will have the opportunity to be reassigned to open positions at nearby stores,” Ward said.

Miro Wenger said, “The neighbors and community will continue to be able to shop at Acme Pike Creek and Acme Prices Corner.”
