Pedestrian killed after hit-and-run on N. Broad Street; driver sought

Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place Sunday night.

It happened around 7 p.m. along the 3900 block of North Broad Street.

Police say a 56-year-old man was crossing the street when he was struck by a car. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

There is no word yet on his identity.

According to police, the suspect involved in the incident fled the area.

“Unfortunately, tragic accidents happen sometimes. However, once you leave the scene of an accident, now you’ve committed a crime,” said Inspector D.F. Pace with Philadelphia police.

Police say the silver front bumper from the fleeing vehicle was recovered at the scene.

The bumper, along with cameras near the scene, reportedly helped investigators locate and tow the vehicle.

Now, authorities say they’re using surveillance video to try and identify the driver.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the police.
