Woman, 3-year-old child injured in crash that left 82-year-old man dead Thursday night

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash in Pike Creek on Thursday night that left one man dead and a woman and child injured.

The name of the man who died, an 82-year-old from Newark, will be released once family is notified.

Police said the 82-year-old was heading south in the left turn lane of Paper Mill Road in a Toyota Avalon at 7:11 p.m. At the same time, a 25-year-old woman from Newark was driving north on Paper Mill Road in a Nissan Rogue. The 82-year-old began to turn left onto Polly Drummond Hill Road at the same time that the 25-year-old entered the intersection, according to police, and the two cars crashed head-on.

The impact overturned the Nissan, injuring the driver and a 3-year-old passenger. They were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 82-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
