Delaware voters are hitting polls in potential record numbers on first day of early voting

A line of early voters was wrapping around the state’s Department of Elections Warehouse near New Castle on Friday — Delaware’s first day of early voting.

The number of people going out to vote in Delaware is creating the potential to break previous early voting records, according to a Department of Elections spokesperson.

“The early voting sites statewide opened today at 11 a.m.” said Cathleen Hartsky-Carter, an elections department spokesperson.

As of 12:44 p.m. Friday, Hartsky-Carter said more than 6,000 people had already come out to vote, with Sussex County voters out-doing the northern counties.
