CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey dedicated a home to a new homeowner on Wednesday — the first Camden dedication this year — just in time for the holiday season.
It took many hours and lots of sweat to renovate the row home on Clinton Street. Tears of joy rolled down Tynisa Williams’ face when she was handed the keys to her first home.
“A bit overwhelming,” she said. “I’m just grateful to all of the people that made this possible. I know there’s been a lot of hands that helped lay the groundwork for this. I’m glad to have been a part of it. And I hope to be a part of this for someone else.”
The home right next to Williams’ is also being renovated by Habitat. CEO Laurie Leonard said the organization is working on a few projects right now in Camden.
“The only way really in the world these days to create any kind of generational wealth is through homeownership, and to give somebody that opportunity — it just makes every other day worth it,” she said.
