Eagles practice squad signing a bad sign for Jalen Hurts’ chances of playing vs. Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni met with the media on Thursday morning, and the major topic of discussion was the status of starting quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Hurts entered the NFL’s concussion protocol during last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders . The only update Sirianni offered during Thursday’s media session was that Hurts remains in the protocol. The QB was listed as a “did not participate” (DNP) on Wednesday’s estimated practice report (the players were off for Christmas Day), and no activity again on Thursday and Friday would be a bad sign for his chances of suiting up for Sunday’s home game against the Dallas Cowboys (1 p.m. EST, FOX).

Speaking of a bad sign, the team made a roster move on Thursday morning that does not look good for Hurts’ Week 17 status. The Eagles signed quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad, giving the team a potential emergency QB option for Sunday’s game if either Hurts or Kenny Pickett  — who is dealing with a rib injury — can’t go. The team also has Tanner McKee on the active roster to potentially serve as the top backup.
