Update: Four In Critical Condition, Officer In Stable Condition

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a New Castle County police officer traveling eastbound on Christiana Road (Route 273) in the area of Thomas Garrett Drive was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision. A silver Kia Optima reportedly crossed the grass median and struck the front of the marked patrol vehicle.

The officer, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. The driver of the Kia and three juvenile passengers were also transported to area hospitals, where they are currently in critical but stable condition.

According to initial reports from the scene, two children were ejected from the vehicle upon impact and sustained serious injuries.

The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, including multiple ambulances, paramedic units, and fire departments. The area surrounding Route 273 and DE Route 1 was closed to traffic while crews worked the scene.
