A suspended Wilmington Police sergeant is facing charges of assault, offensive touching and two counts of official misconduct.
The indictment of Sergeant Caro Spearman April 14th followed an investigation into the treatment of a disorderly woman who spat on officers at the riverfront April 9th, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The Department of Justice and City Police said an investigation determined that officers handcuffed a woman who had spat on them. Police at the time were responding to a complaint of a disorderly person at Big Fish Grill and the Hyatt Hotel.
Spearman is accused of flinging the cuffed woman to the ground, then slapping her in the face when she spat on him. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital that same night…
