Feds Indict Middletown Man For Carjacking, Armed Robbery

A federal grand jury in the District of Delaware returned a four-count indictment on April 10, 2025, charging a Middletown man with robbing a restaurant and a gas station and committing a carjacking, all at gunpoint.

According to court documents, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, the first robbery occurred at the Shing Kwong restaurant on North Broad Street in Middletown. Officials said an unknown male entered the business and displayed what appeared to be a sawed-off rifle or shotgun with a duct-taped handle. The suspect demanded money from the register and fled the scene with the proceeds. On Thursday, January 30, the second robbery and carjacking took place at the Valero gas station on East Main Street. The same individual brandished a similar weapon, stole cash and lottery tickets, and then allegedly carjacked an occupied silver Hyundai Elantra at gunpoint.

Authorities identified the suspect as 48-year-old Anthony Fields of Middletown. Detectives used witness statements, video surveillance, phone records, and lottery ticket redemption data to track Fields following the crime spree. The investigation revealed that Fields cashed some of the stolen tickets and abandoned the stolen Hyundai at a casino before traveling to Philadelphia officials said. On January 30, the Middletown Police Department issued a public alert on social media asking for assistance in locating Fields, describing him as “armed and dangerous.” He turned himself in to authorities on February 2, 2025…
