Newark Housing Authority celebrates start of affordable housing redevelopment project

From her apartment on Independence Circle, Ellen Pollack has a front row seat to watch as a redevelopment project transforms the Newark Housing Authority’s George Read Village site and, more broadly, the east end of Main Street.

Pollack has lived in one of NHA’s senior apartments for four years and is one of many residents there who will be the first to move to a brand-new apartment complex being built at the site of NHA’s office building along Main Street.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Pollack, who also serves as a resident representative on the NHA board. “It will be more modern. It will have central air, a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer in the apartment.”…
