Code orange air quality alert issued for Philadelphia and surrounding counties

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has declared a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ozone for Sunday June 22, in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties.

Sunday’s sunny skies, light southwest winds, high temperatures in the low 90’s, and limited vertical mixing will act to produce significant ozone concentrations in the code ORANGE range Sunday afternoon.

The DEP says sensitive individuals of the population should take precautions and limit outdoor activity during the afternoon. Fine particle pollution concentrations will average in the lower to middle moderate range…
