Dover, Del. – Delaware residents from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach should take precautions Saturday as air quality across the state dips to potentially unhealthy levels for sensitive groups. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect for New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties through Saturday, July 5.
According to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), elevated levels of ground-level ozone are expected, making conditions hazardous for children, older adults, and those with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions. The alert remains in place throughout the day as hot, stagnant weather traps pollutants near the surface.
Residents are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the afternoon and early evening when ozone levels tend to peak. “People in sensitive groups should stay indoors and use air conditioning if available,” DNREC officials warned…
