There’s this stupid myth out in the world that Black people are lazy. That Black men don’t want to work and that we‘d rather lie back in the cut and take public assistance. First of all, as I understand it, public assistance is no longer what it used to be. People who think they can ride on the government’s coattails their entire life are over. Everyone who is able-bodied, in good mental and physical health, who has some level of ability, impressive or basic, needs to be working.
Let me try to dispel another myth, and that’s the one that says there are no jobs out here right now. There are jobs available in a wide range of fields and industries. The question is, are people prepared or trained for the jobs? Do job seekers know where the jobs are?
Sitting here and writing an article that declares “More Black Men Want A Job Than Some People Think” can say that this notion didn’t come to me by scientific conclusion. I haven’t interviewed a labor and employment expert in recent years or anything like that…
