‘Distinctive’ tattoo helps police identify suspect in burglary near North East

NORTH EAST — Investigators have filed numerous criminal charges against a man who allegedly broke into a construction supply company near North East in January, stole tools and caused approximately $1,400 in property damage — after his body art helped detectives identify him as the suspect, according to Cecil County District Court records.

Store security cameras at the targeted business — Builder’s First Source in the unit block of Industrial Drive — videotaped the suspect, as did a dashboard camera inside a pickup truck that he allegedly attempted to steal, police said.

Although he was wearing a mask and gloves, the dashboard camera yielded footage of a tattoo on his wrist — and that helped Cecil County Sheriff’s Office investigators identify the suspect as John Albert Barton III, 43, of the 100 block of Erie Court in the Lakeside Mobile Home Park near North East…
