Traffic Stop in Wilmington Ends With Foot Chase — Police Seize Guns and Drugs

WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested a 44-year-old New Castle man on multiple felony charges following an attempted traffic stop in Wilmington that escalated into a foot pursuit and the recovery of firearms and narcotics.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 20, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m. when a trooper observed a Chevrolet Malibu at a red light on Northeast Boulevard with expired registration. After the vehicle turned onto East 26th Street, the trooper activated emergency equipment to initiate a stop. Police say the driver failed to pull over immediately, continuing until reaching the 1000 block of East 24th Street, where the car eventually stopped.

The driver, later identified as Kyrob Smith, allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police report that despite multiple commands to stop, Smith ran into a nearby residence belonging to an acquaintance.
