The Newark and University of Delaware police departments have received a $15,000 grant from the Delaware Office of Highway Safety to boost enforcement of pedestrian safety laws on the roads surrounding the campus.
The initiative comes amid a renewed emphasis on safety following the Main Street crash that killed a pedestrian and injured several others in April. The city recently completed numerous safety improvements on Main Street, including new stop signs, rumble strips, signage and other measures.
