A vigil in downtown Newark on Friday evening remembered American service members who were held as prisoners of war or who remain missing in action.
VFW Post 475 hosts the event each year on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is the third Friday of September. VFW members kept vigil for 12 hours on the Academy Lawn, concluding with a brief ceremony featuring a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.”
