Wilmington’s Fire Department switches to shifts with additional rest

Firefighters in the Wilmington Fire Department will have more rest time between their shifts.

Starting at 8 a.m. on October 1st, 2025, WFD firefighters will work a schedule of 24 hours on duty, followed by 72 hours off-duty, adding an additional 24 hours of rest into their schedule, leading firefighters to work an average of 48 hours per week.
