North East man sentenced for beating ex-boss on victim’s 50th birthday

ELKTON — A man who beat and robbed his former employer — on the victim’s 50th birthday — outside a convenience store near North East in December received a one-year jail term Tuesday, after accepting a plea deal, according to Cecil County Circuit Court records.

Cecil County Circuit Court Judge William W. Davis Jr. imposed a maximum 10-year sentence on the defendant — Jay Russell Mabe, 51, of North East — for robbery and then suspended nine years of the penalty, leaving Mabe with a one-year term that he will serve in the Cecil County Detention Center, court records show. The judge gave Mabe credit for 12 days that he served in that county jail as a pre-trial inmate after his arrest.

In addition, Davis ordered Mabe to serve three years of supervised probation after completing his one-year term and to pay $100 in restitution to the victim, court records show…
