Rising Sun woman charged with burglarizing center that helps the needy

RISING SUN — The Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed criminal charges against a woman who allegedly broke into a Rising Sun-area center that provides free food, clothing and household items to needy people and stole various items, including purses and sneakers, according to Cecil County District Court records.

Prosecutors charged the suspect — Donna Lee Dawson, 57, of Rising Sun — on Thursday by way of a criminal information, court records show. Dawson is facing six misdemeanor charges, including fourth-degree storehouse burglary, theft of more than $100 and less than $1,500 and malicious destruction of property valued at less than $1,000, according to court records.

Dawson stands accused of breaking into Chris’ Community Cupboard in the unit block of Rock Springs Road on July 12 and stealing baby clothes, purses and sneakers. While five of six counts specify July 12 as the offense date, the remaining charge — theft scheme — indicates that Dawson allegedly committed that offense between June 12 and July 12…
