As the university prepares for a new round of contract negotiations with three of its four employee unions, faculty and facilities staff are calling for better pay, improved staffing levels and the restoration of student services.
The university’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP-UD) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Locals 439 and 3472 — which represent custodial and service workers — have yet to begin formal negotiations.
Their contracts are set to expire next summer, with internal union discussions scheduled to begin in November and formal negotiations with the university planned for January. Contract negotiations with the University of Delaware Police Department (UDPD) are also underway…
