The opening of Old Paper Mill Road Park on Monday was an accomplishment more than 30 years in the making.
“The City of Newark always knew where it was going with Old Paper Mill Road Park,” said Joe Spadafino, the former parks and recreation director who returned to Newark for the grand opening celebration. “It just took a while for us to get there, and it was well worth the wait.”
The new park is located on a 14-acre site across from Newark Reservoir. It includes a multipurpose field for soccer and other sports, six pickleball courts, two sand volleyball courts, a pavilion, a climbing structure for kids and two plaza areas with picnic tables…
