Redding Consortium to hold 2 town halls about possible Wilmington redistricting

A pair of Virtual Town Halls this week aim to get public input on potentially major systemic changes to the education system in Wilmington and New Castle County.

The Redding Consortium will hold sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday Night, attempting to see which of three options people prefer most:

  • Metropolitan Wilmington District – This would consolidate the Brandywine and Red Clay School Districts into one, adding in the entire City of Wilmington, including the portions currently served by Christina and Colonial.
  • Brandywine and Red Clay – Similar to the prior proposal, but Brandywine and Red Clay would remain separate, but split the City of Wilmington, with Colonial and Christina removed.
  • Northern New Castle County Consolidated District – The four primary above-the-canal public school districts — Brandywine, Colonial, Christina, and Red Clay, would be consolidated into one district.

Information from the town halls is going to be mixed in with the Consortium’s opinions to make a decision on which plan to focus on when they meet next on December 16.

At that point, a full plan on how to implement the changes will be presented to the State Board of Education, and ultimately state legislators, with the hope of being able to make changes close to the end of this decade…
