Police: 135,000 Pills Seized During Drug Bust

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Drug and Human Trafficking Investigations Team, working alongside Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Postal Inspection Service, have arrested a Wilmington man following a months-long probe into a nationwide prescription pill trafficking operation. The investigation began in July 2025 after authorities identified evidence of large-scale narcotics distribution throughout New Castle County and across the country using the U.S. mail system.

According to police, investigators determined that 45-year-old Maury Moody was purchasing significant quantities of prescription medications from overseas suppliers, having the shipments delivered to his home, and reselling the pills. On November 17, 2025, detectives executed a search warrant at Moody’s residence on the 1900 block of Seneca Road in the Canby Park Estates neighborhood. During the search, investigators recovered approximately 135,646 pills from Moody’s bedroom.

Police reported that the seized medications included 30,694 Tramadol, 32,700 Pregabalin, 23,240 Carisoprodol, 20,249 Zolpidem, 5,813 Diazepam, 5,040 Ksalol, 419 Clonazepam, and 80 Zopisign, all classified as Schedule IV controlled substances, police said. Detectives also located 17,190 Tapentadol, a Schedule II controlled substance, along with 221 Sildenafil tablets.
