‘Fulfill The Last Of Her Sins’: New Jersey Mom Found Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity In Infant’s Stabbing Death

A New Jersey woman accused of stabbing her infant daughter to death in 2021 was found not guilty by reason of insanity last Monday, ending a case that began with a disturbing confession to police.

Kristhie I. Alcazar, 30, appeared before Superior Court Judge Russell DePersia for a bench trial regarding the death of her 5-month-old child. While Alcazar faced charges of purposeful and knowing murder, the judge ruled that her mental state at the time of the killing absolved her of criminal responsibility.

The ruling hinges on a psychiatric evaluation reviewed by the court. Judge DePersia noted that while Alcazar was cognitively aware of the nature of her actions during the incident, the doctor’s report concluded “she did not understand that her actions were wrong.”…
