Port Deposit musician drums his way into Delaware Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

PORT DEPOSIT — Rob Chirnside was pedaling his bicycle along a Cecil County road several years ago, when a voice coming from the open window of a passing car enthusiastically greeted, “Hey, Box Turtle Bob.”

That voice belonged to someone who knew Chirnside by that moniker because of the 26 years he worked as the disabilities program case manager for the Cecil County Health Department. At some point during his tenure — 1990 through 2016 — Chirnside started holding box turtle races as a fun activity for disabled youngsters attending the three-week long summer day camps.

And so the “Box Turtle Bob” nickname was born…
