DUI checkpoint leads to 5 arrests on Thanksgiving Eve

Delaware State Police and Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety announced the results of their Thanksgiving Eve traffic checkpoint in New Castle County.

There were five DUI arrests out of the more than 300 vehicles that were stopped and screened late Wednesday night and early on Thanksgiving morning. There were 19 other traffic-related arrests. A spokesperson for OHS said the checkpoint took place in the city of New Castle.

The checkpoint was coupled with the state’s sober rides voucher program, which offered a $20 credit for people to use Uber or Lyft to get around that night. Office of Highway Safety said there were 162 rides using this voucher. The best way to avoid a DUI is by not driving at all…
