A 51-year old Essex, Maryland man is in custody for an alleged carjacking in Middletown on Friday afternoon, December 12, 2025.
Delaware State Police said the incident started on Route 301 at Summit Bridge Road around 1:15 p.m. at the scene of a two vehicle accident involving David Thornton.
Police said a Texas man driving a pick up truck stopped to provide assistance. It was then that Thornton got into the driver’s seat of the pick up. The owner tried to get inside but Thornton allegedly reached for something and told him to get out, and then drove off.
The pick up truck was tracked electronically to the off ramp of I-295 at Route 141 northbound where it crashed into a guardrail…
