Police Chief Rushes Into Burning North East Home To Save Elderly Couple

A police chief in Northern Maryland is being hailed as a hero after helping an elderly family escape a house fire that broke out on Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, first responders were called to the unit block of East Wallace Avenue in North East, where there was a reported house fire with smoke showing from the residence.

According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, a senior couple heard noises coming from their basement and later discovered smoke, prompting a 911 call — though a police official in the area immediately jumped into action…
