Delaware DMV waives late fees as Wilmington-area location remains closed

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles is waiving late fees through the end of February as its Wilmington-area facility remains closed following the Dec. 23 killing of a Delaware State Police trooper.

The DMV said the Hessler Boulevard location is expected to remain closed through February. While other Delaware locations are open, those DMVs will close 30 minutes earlier than their current hours “to allow sufficient time for end-of-day processing and other required procedures,” a Jan. 27 news release said.

The Wilmington-area DMV is shuttered for “repairs” that are “underway” following Delaware State Police Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook’s fatal shooting.

Thirty-four-year-old Snook, who lived in Hockessin, was working an overtime shift at the DMV that day. Police commonly work overtime gigs and state police are routinely stationed at the DMV locations throughout the state…
