‘It’s just disheartening’: Thieves steal donations meant for Newark resource center

Just three months after opening a resource center for people struggling with addiction, a Newark charity is reeling from the theft of clothes and other items that were destined to be distributed to people in need.

“It kind of sucks, because you’re in it for the right reasons. You’re trying to help people. And then you have people like that, who take it from people who really need it,” said Dawn Sheehan, executive director of Hope on Deck.

Sheehan said that sometime overnight Feb. 13-14, someone stole a large quantity of donations from one of Hope on Deck’s storage sheds on Salem Church Road…
