Wilmington is taking one step further to establish an Office of Community Safety.
Under an executive order signed by Mayor John Carney, the office would be led by a director who would serve as a senior advisor to the mayor. The office would be involved in shaping public safety policy and coordinating with law enforcement, non-profit organizations, members of the community and other partners.
City Council will consider a budget amendment Thursday to fund the Director of Community Safety.
“Thanks to meaningful collaboration throughout our community and the hard work of our dedicated law enforcement officers, the City of Wilmington has made meaningful progress in reducing crime and builder stronger neighborhoods,” Carney said. “The establishment of this new office will help us sustain that progress by ensuring that prevention efforts are aligned across the City.”…
