Newark restaurant’s alcohol permit is suspended for multiple violations

A Newark Shopping Center restaurant will lose its ability to sell alcohol for two months as punishment for a series of violations, including rampant underage drinking, blocking fire exits and the restaurant’s security guard allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman he provided with alcohol.

City council imposed the penalty on Casa Kahlo Mexican Grill & Bar at the conclusion of a hearing Monday night.

“Bartenders can make a mistake if you hire somebody that’s not good, but when it’s repeated, repeated, repeated – that comes from culture and management. And you had opportunities to resolve this and didn’t,” Councilman Jason Lawhorn said. “I think punishment needs to occur.”…
