Delaware marks 7th month below normal precipitation

DOVER — The Delaware Climate Office issued its February report, stating it was the 7th straight month of below-average precipitation, but what still fell was beneficial since low temperatures impede evaporation.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s drought.gov, nearly 100% of Sussex County is either abnormally dry or experiencing a moderate drought, southeastern Kent County is abnormally dry and the majority of New Castle County is either experiencing moderate drought or is drier than normal.

Water conditions at the surface are getting closer to seasonal norms, the climate office contends, but decreased average precipitation has significantly impacted stream and groundwater levels…
