Wilmington man, 58, charged after alleged check fraud in Felton

FELTON — Town police have arrested a 58-year-old Wilmington man in connection with an alleged felony theft at a local bank.The police department dispatched officers March 25 at around 3:10 p.m. to Shore United Bank, 120 W. Main St., after receiving a report about a theft that just had occurred.According to police, a male suspect entered the bank and allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check made out to himself. Bank staff denied the transaction and the suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Officers canvassed the area, located the suspect in the 100 block of Jefferson Street and took him into custody without incident.The suspect, identified as Chet A. Walker, reportedly had altered the check in an attempt to make it appear it legitimately had been issued to him, police said. Authorities took Mr. Walker to the Felton Police Department for processing and charged him with Class G felonies for theft worth $1,500 or more and second-degree forgery. Mr. Walker was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court and released on $1,000 unsecured bail pending a future court date…
