The Wilmington Police Department is not acting at full strength as Wilmington City Council is pushing for philosophical changes in patrolling.
According to Police Chief Wilfredo Campos during a budget hearing this week, Wilmington currently has 281 sworn officers out of the 305 (92%) authorized by the city, down from the 290 announced following a police academy graduation in late February.
The number dips down to an operational 263 (86%) as an additional 18 are either on military leave, or “modified duty” due to injury, FMA, or other administrative absences…
