YMCA expands free summer meal program in southeastern NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina is expanding its free summer meal program to provide weekly meal boxes to children and teens across five counties.

The SUN Meals To-Go program provides free weekly meal boxes with seven days of breakfasts and lunches for children and teens 18 and under. The program operates through the USDA Summer Food Service Program and serves families in Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, Onslow and Sampson counties.

“For many children, school meals are a reliable source of nutrition throughout the year,” said Amy Hobbs, senior director of food services for the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina. “When school is out, families can face additional challenges putting healthy meals on the table.”…
