UNC Board of Governors approves $6.76M UNCW roadway connector project

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The University of North Carolina Board of Governors considered a proposed project to connect to major roads on UNCW’s campus Thursday.

At a meeting on July 23, the board approved building a new 1,900-foot road connecting Hurst Drive to Riegel Road on state-owned land.

Officials say the project aims to cut congestion, improve traffic flow, and boost pedestrian safety, including traffic-calming features and room for future parking expansion with about 330 new street spaces…
