WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A new state law allowing students to miss up to four hours of school per week for religious instruction has prompted the New Hanover County Board of Education to cancel a planned public hearing on LifeWise Academy, an off-campus Bible education program.
The board voted 5-1 Tuesday night to cancel the hearing, which had been expected to draw both supporters and opponents of the program.
