WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington International Airport is moving forward with a $300 million capital improvement project intended to accommodate growth in southeastern North Carolina.
WECT got a first look at the ongoing construction, which includes a new airport entrance, a new parking deck and a new roadway.
ILM Airport Director Jeff Bourk said the expansion is necessary. He said the old terminal opened in 1989 with a curb front designed to handle 200,000 passengers a year. The airport now serves 1.8 million passengers annually, and Bourk said the old infrastructure could not support that growth…
