PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Pender County commissioners are scheduled to designate Sept. 17 as “Hurricane Helpers Day” on Tuesday to honor local emergency personnel.
The proclamation, set to be signed and presented at 6 p.m. on Sept. 8, recognizes the service of local first responders. The designation is tied to the children’s book Hurricane Helpers, written by Jim Brewster. Sponsored by the Burgaw Lions Club, the book highlights the deployment of Pender County Sheriff’s Office personnel who volunteered in Western North Carolina during recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene.
Proceeds from book sales organized by the Lions Club will fund local disaster preparedness and emergency readiness programs…
