CFCC grows apprenticeship program to connect students with local jobs

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is adding new training paths to its apprenticeship program, giving students more ways to learn a trade while helping area businesses find skilled workers.

The college is launching five new pre-apprenticeship tracks:

  • Automotive technician
  • Carpenter
  • Early childhood educator
  • Electrical assistant
  • Electric vehicle service and repair

It is also adding three registered apprenticeship tracks in automotive collision, repair and refinishing technology; carpentry and construction management; and survey technician and geomatics. The growth comes after the college added a registered apprenticeship track for certified nursing assistants earlier this year.

With the additions, the college now offers 16 pre-apprenticeship and 19 registered apprenticeship tracks. CFCC works with 135 employers — 20 of those partnerships were added since May — and leaders say they are still looking to team up with more businesses across the region…
