Wilmington bust: Alcohol, drugs and firearm seized in ALE search

The N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) division seized alcohol, drugs, and one firearm from an illegal outlet in Wilmington, according to a news release.

According to a news release, ALE, the Wilmington Police Department, and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1219 S. Fifth Ave., Wilmington on Jan. 20.

The location has been the site of Edge Lounge .

Non-taxpaid spiritous liquor, 298 containers of malt beverages, 108 bottles of wine, 58 bottles of spiritous liquor, marijuana, Schedule 1 controlled substances, and one firearm was seized, according to the release.

“With a history of 911 calls indicative of violent and criminal behavior, including shootings, drug activity, and a homicide, this location created havoc within the community,” the release said.

Two people from Wilmington have been charged in connection with the search.

Thurston Powell, 58, was charged with possessing alcohol for sale without ABC permits.

Cierra Winston, 33, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
