A proposed homeowners insurance rate increase that would see a 99.4% hike for beach areas in Brunswick County has drawn outrage and concern. In a filing with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, the North Carolina Rate Bureau is asking for an average statewide rate increase of 42.2% in homeowners insurance, effective Aug. 1.
