Brunswick County warns about scams targeting seniors

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scams that target senior citizens. “One scam that was reported to us involved a scammer claiming to be from a well-known bank. The scammer claimed the victim’s bank account had been compromised and advised the victims to withdraw a large sum of money from their money market account. The scammer then advised the couple to deliver the cash to a “Currier” at a local McDonald’s. But the scammer wasn’t finished. He advised there was additional money in the bank that needed to be withdrawn. The victims proceeded to withdraw another large sum of money and delivered it to the scammer, once again, at McDonald’s,” BCSO wrote on their Facebook page.
