North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper has appointed several residents to state boards and commissions, including three from the coastal region. One of these appointees is Susan W. Rabon from Southport, the new chair of the North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors. Rabon is the owner and vice president of Commonwealth Home Health Care Inc. and has served on the Ports Authority Board since 2021.
Leigh Wilson Venters from Wilmington is another appointee. Venters, who has a family member with developmental disabilities, will serve on the North Carolina Commission for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. She is currently the chair of the Board of Visitors at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Mark W. Lanier, also from Wilmington, has been appointed to the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Commission. Lanier recently retired from his role as assistant to the chancellor at the UNCW Board of Trustees, where he was responsible for governmental relations and economic development.
