From the editor: What I love about Wilmington

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d share a few things I love about Wilmington. I could probably name a hundred, but I’ll stick with just a few.

The Riverwalk and the downtown area

I’ve always enjoyed walking along the Riverwalk and watching the Cape Fear River flow by. It’s simply the best feeling on a warm spring day or when the crisp fall air arrives. I even got married at the River Room – right outside on the deck with people walking by. Riverfest was taking place that weekend, so there were fireworks that night, which was an amazing way to cap off that special day.

The food and dining options

While I don’t eat out all that often, I’ve always loved that we have such a variety of restaurants. There’s something for every occasion and something in every price point. You can dine at the beach or along the Cape Fear River for great views. And let’s not forget about the explosion of breweries we’ve seen in the past 10 years. My husband and I like the laid-back feel and the wide variety of craft beers available. Maybe I’m just a little partial to food and dining because I get to edit all of Allison Ballard’s stories. She does a terrific job covering openings and closings, local chefs and trendy topics. You can sign up for her weekly newsletter at starnewsonline.com/newsletters.
