Former New Hanover Moms for Liberty leader charged in connection to Jan. 6 insurrection

A former member of the New Hanover County chapter of Moms for Liberty has been arrested on charges in connection to her alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection, according to a criminal complaint and arrest warrant.

According to the warrant, Justina Guardino, 32, was arrested on Sept. 12 by FBI Special Agent Clinton Morris after the FBI initiated an investigation based on information suggesting she was present during the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Guardino was previously the vice chairwoman of New Hanover County’s chapter of Moms for Liberty. According to Natosha Tew, legislation chair and candidate for New Hanover County Board of Education, Guardino notified the chapter in July of her wish to step down as vice chairwoman. Since then, the chapter has been searching for a replacement, which was indicated in the chapter’s August and September monthly newsletter, according to Tew.

According to court documents, on Aug. 2, 2022, law enforcement agents interviewed Guardino at her home address in Wilmington. During the interview, she confirmed that she had traveled to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 to attend a rally for then-President Donald Trump.
