When some Brunswick County Schools staff drove to work the morning of Sept. 16, little did they know that they were headed to sleepovers. The unplanned sleepovers were prompted by extreme flooding from Potential Tropical Storm Eight. Early that morning, the school district determined that because of the weather it wouldn’t be a school day for students, but it was declared an optional day for staff. That meant staff had the options of going to work, staying home on professional leave and getting paid for the day, or taking leave without pay.
